Argentina and Bolivia sign new military-technical cooperation agreement

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – “Argentina has a good potential and can contribute if we generate spaces of integration between brotherly peoples,” said the Bolivian Minister of Defense, Novillo Aguilar.

The Ministers of Defense of Argentina, Jorge Taiana, and Bolivia, Edmundo Novillo Aguilar, signed this Monday in Buenos Aires a framework agreement on military-technical cooperation, official sources informed.

The agreement aims to strengthen relations between the Ministries of Defense and the Armed Forces of the two countries.

“I am convinced that these are times that merit strengthening bilateral ties with generosity and breadth. When receiving his Bolivian colleague in Buenos Aires, defense is a good bridge for this”, said Taiana.

The Argentine minister highlighted that, within the framework of his country’s National Defense Policy Directive, there is a “mandate to consolidate South America as a zone of peace and to walk the path towards the conformation of a sub-regional space in defense matters.”

“I want to put at Bolivia’s disposal all our production capabilities. Our services from the productive, scientific, technological and innovation system of the Argentine defense industrial apparatus”, he added.

MILITARY AGREEMENT BETWEEN ARGENTINA AND BOLIVIA

Taiana thanked Bolivia for sending forestry brigades from the Bolivian Armed Forces to fight the fires that affected the Argentine province of Corrientes.

For his part, Novillo Aguilar said that the agreement signed on Monday, May 23, would strengthen cooperation in security, defense, and development.

According to the Argentine Ministry of Defense in a press release, the agreement sealed on Monday seeks to deepen exchanges and training opportunities between both ministries.

That is in addition to cooperation between the Armed Forces, and scientific, technological, and industrial development. In addition to mutual assistance in emergencies and disasters and cultural exchange on defense-related issues.

The creation of an Argentine-Bolivian working group was established, which will be formed by personnel from both ministries. Finally, it was detailed that this will direct and coordinate the activities foreseen in the agreement.
