Lawyer says Bolsonaro “repudiates acts of vandalism”

The lawyer Frederick Wassef, who represents the Bolsonaro family, spoke out on Friday (Jan. 13), after the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) asked the Supreme Court (STF) to include former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL, right) in the investigation that looks into the “instigation and intellectual authorship of anti-democratic acts”.

In a statement released by the advisory office of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), Wasseff said that the former president “never had any relationship or participation in these spontaneous social movements carried out by the population.”

“President Jair Bolsonaro vehemently repudiates the acts of vandalism and depredation of public property committed by the infiltrators in the demonstration,” he said.

Wasseff also pointed out that the former president “has always been against such unlawful conduct, just as he has always been a defender of the Constitution and democracy.”

“Throughout his government, he has always acted within the four lines of the Constitution,” he pointed out.

The request from the PGR, signed by members of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, suggests that by posting a video on January 10 questioning the regularity of the 2022 presidential elections, Bolsonaro would have made public incitement to commit a crime.

The post was then deleted but shared by several followers.

The president of the STF, Justice Rosa Weber, must decide whether to authorize the investigation against Bolsonaro.

The magistrate can also choose to forward the request to another Justice of the Supreme Court.
