Google Duplex: robot that ‘simulates’ humans on the phone launched in Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Tuesday, June 14, Google announced the arrival of Duplex in Brazil, a tool that mimics humans to make automated phone calls, launched in 2018.

Duplex is being used in Brazil to make calls to businesses and confirm data such as the opening hours of these locations for updating searches, for example.

According to Google, about 200 daily calls are currently being made.

"With Duplex, Google wants to help businesses connect with their customers in a faster, simpler, and more natural way," said Fábio Coelho, president of Google Brazil.

Google also said that it is testing Duplex to be used when buying movie tickets at a box office with which the company has a partnership, ingresso.com.

According to the company, the idea is to search for the movie, choose the time of the session, and then finalize the purchase using voice commands.

The tool will also be used in the context of the 2022 elections in partnership with the Brazilian Superior Electoral Court (TSE).

Users can use voice commands on Google Assistant to check the voting location, but the company has not yet explained how this will work.
