Brazil signs agreement with Australia on granting work visas

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) said that a memorandum of understanding was signed on March 31 between Brazil and the Australian government on the issuance of work and vacation visas for Brazilian students who make or intend to make exchange programs in that country.

According to Itamaraty, from July 1 of this year, when it will come into force, the document will allow 500 young Brazilians between 18 and 30 years annually to stay in Australia for up to 12 months, with the possibility to work and study.

Currently, for a Brazilian to work or study in that country, it is necessary to have a prior link with the employer or educational institution. Brazilians are the eighth largest contingent of international students in Australia, with about 9,000 students, according to Itamaraty. Brazil also has similar agreements with Germany, France, and New Zealand.
