More than half of the industry sectors began to show greater pessimism with the Brazilian economy in January of this year.

The Industrial Entrepreneur Confidence Index by sector was released this Wednesday, 25, by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI).

The survey shows that 19 of the 29 sectors consulted had the indicator below 50 points, the cutoff line that separates trust from distrust.

More than 2,000 companies were interviewed, the majority of which were small and medium-sized, between the 3rd and 13th of this month.

Between December and January, nine industry sectors transitioned from a confident to a low confidence state.

In comparison, the index fell in 26 of the 29 sectors analyzed, in all regions of Brazil and in all sizes of industrial company.

The biggest drops occurred in the North and South regions of the country.

This scenario has been accentuated since the presidential elections last year.

“Since October, the confidence index of the different industrial sectors has been showing successive falls, anticipating the loss of pace of economic activity that we are now seeing materialize”, said economist Larissa Nocko, from CNI.

The least confident sectors in the Brazilian economy are information technology and electronics, in the areas of plastic, wood and machinery and equipment.
