Covid-19: Brazil Has Cumulative 151,000 Deaths, 5.11 Million Cases (October 13th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In the past 24 hours, another 309 deaths from the disease caused by the novel coronavirus have been recorded. On Monday, October 12th, the number of deaths in Brazil since the start of the pandemic stood at 150,689. There are still 2,400 deaths under investigation.

The data are included in the Ministry of Health’s update disclosed on Tuesday evening, October 13th. The balance is compiled based on data submitted by the state Health Secretariats from their respective processing and monitoring efforts.

The number of cumulative cases totaled 5,113,628. Between Monday and Tuesday, the Health Secretariats added 10,220 new positive Covid-19 diagnoses to the statistics. By Monday, the cumulative number of cases stood at 4,526,975.

There are still 435,655 cases under follow-up. According to the Ministry of Health, 4,526,975 patients have already recovered from the disease.

The number of cases and deaths is lower on Sundays and Mondays due to limitations in data systematization and feeding of the Ministry of Health’s panel by state Secretariats during weekends.

On Tuesdays, daily numbers tend to rise due to the accumulation of cases on weekends that are reported that day. With Monday’s holiday, Tuesday’s figures reflect a lower increase than the average for the past few days.

States

The states registering the highest number of deaths are São Paulo (37,314), Rio de Janeiro (19,336), Ceará (9,140), Pernambuco (8,417), and Minas Gerais (8,145).

The states with fewest cases are Roraima (670), Acre (675), Amapá (727), Tocantins (1,012), and Mato Grosso do Sul (1,449).

According to the report released yesterday by the São Paulo State Health Secretariat, the state has 1,039,029 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus to date, with 37,314 deaths.

From the total number of confirmed cases, 928,292 people have recovered from the disease. There are currently 8,075 people hospitalized throughout the state with suspected or confirmed novel coronavirus cases, 3,599 of whom are in critical condition. The intensive care unit (ICU) bed occupancy rate stands at 42.6 percent in the state and 41.9 percent in Greater São Paulo.
