Brazil Calls for New UN Security Council Meeting

Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira announced plans to re-address the Israel-Palestine conflict.

He aims to do this at a UN Security Council meeting. This meeting will occur from October 24 to 26. Vieira’s comments came during a Peace Summit in Cairo, Egypt.

Vieira says there’s broad support for humanitarian efforts in the conflict zone. Specifically, he wants to open humanitarian corridors.

He shared these views during the summit. According to him, the UN Security Council’s lack of action hurts many people.

In his words, this inaction goes against global interests. Vieira will attend the meeting himself.

Now, for some context. Brazil has long been involved in international peace efforts. The country has served multiple times on the UN Security Council.

However, Brazil is not a permanent member of the Council. This upcoming meeting gains attention due to rising concerns about the Middle East.

Brazil’s past resolutions have faced challenges. The U.S. veto of Brazil’s last resolution is a case in point.

Brazil may lack a permanent Council seat, but its influence is growing.
