Boosting Brazil-Russia Farming Links

The 12th Brazil-Russia Intergovernmental Commission meeting in Moscow brought together key figures from both nations to fortify agricultural relations.

This session, chaired by Brazil’s Ambassador Maria Laura da Rocha and Russia’s Deputy Minister Vladimir Ilichev, sets the stage for future high-level discussions.

Mapa’s team, headed by Secretary Roberto Perosa, pushed for closer ties. They explored trade, scientific projects, and roles in BRICS and G20 forums.

Perosa highlighted the partnership’s strength, celebrating the accreditation of Brazilian meat plants for Russian markets and opening Eurasian Union markets to Brazilian cattle.

The focus extended to enhancing sanitary and phytosanitary negotiations, aiming to expand trade.

Brazil’s 2023 agribusiness exports to Russia totaled US$1.25 billion, with soy and meats comprising 73% of trade.

A prior meeting at the Brazilian Embassy in Russia, with Ambassadors Maria Laura da Rocha and Rodrigo Baena Soares, highlighted meticulous planning for discussions.

The collaboration signals dedication to long-term agricultural and economic growth, fostering expanded trade and scientific partnerships.
