By · February 24, 2023 · 2 min read

Remittances sent to the country by Bolivians working abroad reached a historical record of U$1.437 billion in 2022, informed yesterday Thursday, the Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB).

“This is the highest value in remittances reached in all the time this indicator has been registered, even more considering an international context affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, among other adverse factors,” said the entity’s president, Edwin Rojas, in a press conference.

After the drop in 2020, the figure represents a growth of 2.7 percent.

By country of origin, remittances came mainly from Spain (31.4 percent), Chile (21.6 percent), the United States (20.7 percent), Brazil (5.8 percent), and Argentina (4.7 percent).

According to Rojas, these resources positively affect the income level of Bolivian families, generate savings, invest in the country, and promote financial inclusion.

Bolivian President Luis Arce used social networks to highlight the historical figure.

“The great work and effort of our compatriots abroad also drive the economic reconstruction of Bolivia. In 2022 our family remittances beat historical record reaching US$1.437 billion, 2.7 percent more than in 2021,” he said on his Twitter account.
