Argentina announces bill to promote green hydrogen

The Argentine government announced yesterday that it is preparing to send Congress a bill to promote green hydrogen. This initiative will seek to balance the care of natural resources with the development necessary to generate employment and exports.

The Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs, Santiago Cafiero, made the announcement this Friday at the closing of the “Global Forum on Green Hydrogen 2023” that took place for two consecutive days in the city of San Carlos de Bariloche, in the southern province of Rio Negro.

“We needed to work on a law that balances the care of the natural resource that Argentina has with the necessary development to generate quality employment and exports with added value,” said Cafiero, referring to the Hydrogen bill that the Executive will send to Congress soon.

According to the state news agency “Télam”, the initiative contemplates the investment’s fiscal stability for 30 years, tax benefits, access to the foreign exchange market, and zero tariffs on exports, among other incentives.

“We will be sending it, and we will, of course, have all our energies focused on having Congress deal with it as soon as possible”, said the official.

The Chancellor added that “the energy transition has to be the possibility of finding new export and economic development vectors for our country, thus generating quality employment”.

“Finding development vectors outside Argentina’s traditional agro-export or industrial matrix is a strategic project because they not only come to replace an energy and develop an industry but also to solve structural problems of our country”, said the official.

The international forum in San Carlos de Bariloche summoned specialists, business people, referents of the energy sector, and government officials to know the substantial advances that green hydrogen has worldwide.
