Venezuela Seeks Full Membership in BRICS This Year

On Monday, Venezuela’s leader, Nicolás Maduro, expressed optimism about the country’s full entry into BRICS by 2024.

He spoke on Telesur, highlighting this goal. Maduro said, “We hope to become a full BRICS member at the Moscow summit.”

This move would elevate Venezuela from a partner to a full member. Maduro wants closer ties with India, China, Russia, Brazil, South Africa, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.

He seeks to link Venezuela with leading global science and technology through BRICS. Maduro believes this step will usher in a fairer, multipolar world.

This aspiration underscores the importance of global cooperation and the quest for development and recognition on the world stage.

Venezuela Seeks Full Membership in BRICS This Year

Venezuela’s potential BRICS membership adds another authoritarian regime to the mix, joining Russia and China.

This expands the group’s authoritarian footprint, already noted with India’s democratic backsliding. Saudi Arabia and Iran, with their strict governance, amplify concerns.

Such composition raises questions about the group’s direction and values. Critics argue it could shift BRICS away from democratic ideals.

Supporters see it as a diversification of global power. The debate intensifies over whether BRICS challenges or complements the current world order.

This development prompts a reevaluation of BRICS’ role in global politics.
