“Up Ahead, Everyone Will Vote for me,” Says Brazil’s Bolsonaro

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In a speech to residents in Eldorado, a city in the interior of the state of São Paulo, President Jair Bolsonaro thanked them for the votes he got in last year’s presidential election and hinted at the prospect of contesting the elections again.

During last year’s campaign, Bolsonaro said he was willing to put an end to re-election as part of political reform. At the time, the president even said he would accept that a change in the rules would apply to his mandate.

“Thank you very much to those who voted and to those who didn’t vote for me. Moving ahead, everyone will vote, I’m sure,” said the president into the microphone. “Eldorado is living proof that we can all get to where we want and fight for it. I want to change Brazil together with you,” he said.

Bolsonaro was in Eldorado, the city where he was raised, on Thursday, June 20th, to visit his mother and family. The speech was broadcast live on social networks by Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, the president’s son.
