Silver Rebounds After Four-Day Decline as Market Weighs Trade Tensions Against Economic Signals

Silver prices climbed 1.10% to $32.36 per troy ounce on Monday, ending a four-day losing streak. TradingView data shows the precious metal bounced from key support levels around $32 as investors reassessed market conditions.

The recent decline reflected optimism about potential U.S. trade agreements with India, Japan, and South Korea. President Trump’s statements about a possible deal with China temporarily reduced safe-haven demand.

Silver’s industrial outlook faced pressure after the U.S. economy contracted 0.3% in Q1 2025, its first negative growth in three years. Chinese manufacturing data added further complexity to silver‘s demand picture.

The manufacturing PMI fell to a 16-month low with export orders dropping sharply. This manufacturing weakness could impact industrial silver demand, which represents approximately 58% of global consumption.

Silver markets exhibited regional variations across the globe. Indian silver prices traded marginally higher at ₹94,160 per kg. Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore showed prices at ₹97 per gram while Chennai maintained higher rates at ₹108 per gram.

The precious metal has gained 11.91% since January despite recent setbacks. This performance comes amid growing divergence between gold and silver prices.

Extreme Gold-to-Silver Ratio Signals Silver Upside

The gold-to-silver ratio currently stands at approximately 100:1, far above the historical average of 60:1-70:1. Market analysts see this extreme ratio as unsustainable and predict potential mean reversion.

A partial adjustment could push silver prices higher even without additional catalysts. Technical analysis supports this view with silver’s weekly chart showing a breakout pattern suggesting further upside potential.

Investment flows paint a complex picture for precious metals. Silver ETFs recorded modest positive inflows while gold-backed ETFs experienced outflows. Physical investment demand remains robust with premiums for silver products revealing market tightness.

Forecasts suggest silver will trade at $32.83 by the end of this quarter according to Trading Economics models. Year-end projections point to approximately $34.95 per ounce, representing a 19% year-over-year increase.

More ambitious analysts believe $40 per ounce could emerge by summer if industrial demand accelerates alongside investment flows. The Federal Reserve’s upcoming policy decision will likely influence silver’s near-term direction.

Silver’s smaller market capitalization compared to gold creates higher volatility during decisive market trends. This characteristic typically causes silver to move 2-3 times more dramatically than gold during major market shifts.
