Record-Breaking São Paulo Pride Parade Tops Global Attendance, Advocates for LGBT+ Seniors

The 2025 São Paulo LGBT+ Pride Parade drew over three million people, making it the most important Pride event in Latin America and one of the largest the world.

No other parade in Latin America comes close in size; for comparison, Mexico City’s parade is the region’s second largest but attracts far fewer participants.

Globally, São Paulo’s parade consistently equals or surpasses major events in cities like New York, Madrid, and Toronto, which each see between two and four million attendees in their biggest years.

According to the São Paulo Commercial Association, the parade brought about R$548.5 ($100) million to local businesses, which is 16% more than last year. This money came from spending on hotels, restaurants, and shops by visitors.

People traveled from many different states, some coming in groups and arriving early in the morning. The parade featured 17 floats, live music, and DJs. Organizers wanted everyone to feel safe and welcome.

This year, the theme was “Aging LGBT+: Memory, Resistance, and Future.” The focus was on the problems older LGBT+ people face, such as being alone, facing age discrimination, and having trouble getting healthcare.

Organizers asked for better public policies to help these people, like safe housing and community centers.

Security was strong. The city sent 1,500 police officers and 187 patrol cars to keep the event safe. Some police teams focused on stopping hate crimes.

Because of construction, the parade followed a different route, and some streets were closed.

Health was another priority. The city’s health department gave free rapid tests for HIV and syphilis, handed out condoms and self-test kits, and shared information about HIV prevention. These services helped protect people’s health and spread awareness.

Some politicians attended to show support, but the city’s mayor was out of the country during the parade. Organizers used the event to ask the government for more help for older LGBT+ people.
