Petro asks Prosecutor General’s Office to investigate his son and brother

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, has asked Thursday the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate his brother, Juan Fernando Petro Urrego, and his eldest son Nicolás Petro, after the “rumors” circulating that they would be charging bribes to criminals so they can benefit from the Government’s peace plan.

Petro has stressed that based on the “commitment” he made when he was elected president and the “loyalty” he owes to those who voted for him, in the face of rumors about the accusations about his brother and son, he has asked the prosecutor, Francisco Barbosa, to investigate them and establish responsibilities if appropriate.

“The only official who has the endorsement of the Government to have contact with the organizations outside the law, with the sole objective of the search for peace, is the High Commissioner for Peace, Danilo Rueda,” Petro reiterated in a statement disseminated through his social networks.

Finally, the Colombian president closed with the confidence that his brother and his eldest son “can prove their innocence”, but remarking at the same time that he will respect “the conclusions reached by the justice system”.
