In retaliation for Brazil’s refusal to deliver weapons to Ukraine, Germany imposed an embargo on Brazilian exports of 28 Guarani armored vehicles to the Philippines.

The information is from Veja magazine, published on Thursday (23).

The vehicles are manufactured by Iveco in Sete Lagoas, Minas Gerais, and have German systems and parts, allowing export control.

The confirmation of the embargo was made to Veja by the governmental office of export control in Germany.

Also, according to the magazine, five units of the Guarani are already in the yard of Iveco, waiting for the buyer, who made the deal through the Israeli government.

Brazil has maintained neutrality in the conflict, which began a year ago with the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

Recently, at the end of January, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was in Brazil and asked President Lula to allocate arms to Ukraine.

Scholz, at the top of the list of Volodymyr Zelensky’s allies, declared that the conflict “is not just a European issue.”

“It is a flagrant violation of international rights and the international order,” the German chancellor said as he made an international appeal for more help for the Ukrainians.

President Lula did not give in to the German’s pleas.

“Brazil has no interest in passing ammunition to be used in the Ukraine-Russia conflict. Brazil is a peaceful country,” Lula declared on that occasion.

Days later, at a Munich conference, Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira reaffirmed Brazil’s refusal to send weapons to Ukraine.
