Former TV Record News Anchor and Journalist Paulo Henrique Amorim Dies

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Only two weeks after TV Record removed him from his show “Domingo Espetacular” because of political pressure, journalist Paulo Henrique Amorim died of a heart attack in Rio de Janeiro in the early hours of Wednesday, July 10th, at the age of 76. He worked in several newsrooms, including Globo.

The journalist established his own style on camera during his 60-year career. Yet the videos he recorded for the internet showed his more genuine self: he was debauched and uncensored.

As a leftist sympathizer, he gained many anonymous haters and famous disaffections in recent times. This didn’t seem to shake him. An assumed polemicist at a time when many anchors and commentators simulated neutrality on account of political correctness, Paulo Henrique Amorim was outspoken and paid a high price for being true to his convictions.

He was a reporter, international correspondent, news anchor and, until recently, presented the Domingo Espetacular show on TV Record, from where he was relieved in June.

Ideologies and misconceptions aside, the journalist added relevant content to the national debate, particularly in political chronicles. He shook people awake in order to get them to take a stand.

The wake will be held July 11th at the headquarters of ABI (Brazilian Press Association) – Rua Araújo Porto Alegre, 71, downtown Rio de Janeiro. The funeral service will take place from 10 AM to 3 PM.

He will be cremated in the Cemitério da Penitência Crematorium in the Rio de Janeiro port area.
