Ecuadorian government files complaint against 6 judges for alleged acts of corruption

The Ecuadorian Secretary of Public Security and State, Diego Ordóñez, filed a complaint against six judges for alleged acts of corruption.

“Six judges have been denounced,” Ordóñez confirmed to the press.

He pointed out that the documents delivered include the report presented before the Council of Public and State Security by the Ministry of the Interior and the National Police, where the investigation of the judges and the cases in which they are involved are exposed.

“We are putting facts in front, not accusing in relation to any crime. We have put the facts in front; we have pointed out judges whose names are repeated in a series of cases where criminals, murderers, rapists, people linked to drug trafficking and arms trafficking are let free”, said Ordóñez in declarations to the press.

On February 7, President Guillermo Lasso announced that he decided to file a formal complaint with the Judiciary Council and a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office and public exposure of these cases.

In his message to the nation, the president revealed the names and showed photographs of the judges who had granted protection actions in favor of criminals and persons deprived of freedom, even abusing resources such as habeas corpus, precautionary measures, and even the release of the beneficiaries, according to the president.

He said one of the judges allowed the return of assets seized from a drug trafficker and the release of the murderer of a councilman when he served only two of the 24 years imposed for that crime.

Another of the justice operators pointed out by the head of state would have signed more than 15 release slips for five criminals after being arrested in possession of weapons and illicit substances, among other cases.
