The S&P IPSA closed at 10,935.89 on July 29, 2026, up 0.52% on the session.

The S&P IPSA is Chile’s benchmark stock index. This page carries its latest verified close and links straight to our report for the current trading day — part of the only English-language service covering Latin America’s main exchanges in detail, every single session.

Santiago skyline with the Costanera Center tower

Chile’s equity market is one of the most closely watched in Latin America, partly because the country has long been a major copper producer and a destination for foreign capital. The Bolsa de Santiago, where the S&P IPSA trades, is the country’s principal exchange.

It brings together shares of banks, retailers, utilities and mining-linked firms that together reflect the domestic economy’s pulse.

For an English-speaking reader abroad, following the IPSA is a way to gauge sentiment toward Chilean assets without needing to track every individual stock. Because the index is weighted by market capitalisation, a handful of large companies can dominate its daily swings.

That is why our full daily report always names the specific stocks that led the session higher or lower, rather than leaving the reader to guess from the headline number alone.

The exchange rate shown alongside the index matters just as much for anyone whose base currency is not the Chilean peso. USD/CLP tells you how many pesos one US dollar buys.

When that number rises, the peso has weakened; when it falls, the peso has strengthened. A foreign investor who sees the IPSA gain 0.52% but also sees the peso lose ground against the dollar may find that the local-currency gain shrinks or even disappears once converted back.

Chile’s market rhythm is also shaped by factors that reach well beyond Santiago. Copper prices, global interest-rate expectations and political developments inside Chile all feed into the index and the currency simultaneously.

Our daily reports place the session’s move in that wider context, so a reader can understand whether the market was reacting to a local earnings surprise, a shift in commodity markets or a regional trend affecting several Latin American exchanges at once.

Looking ahead, the open questions worth watching are whether the IPSA can hold above the 10,900 level in the sessions that follow, and whether the peso’s direction aligns with or diverges from the index. A sustained move in the same direction for both would suggest broad-based confidence or caution, while a split between equities and the currency would point to more targeted forces at work.

The next few daily reports will show which pattern is taking shape.

Today’s report and recent sessions

Our most recent Chile report: Chile Markets: IPSA & the Peso — July 30, 2026 (July 30, 2026).

What the S&P IPSA actually measures

The S&P IPSA tracks the most heavily traded and highest-value companies listed on the Bolsa de Santiago. It is a capitalisation-weighted index, which means the largest companies move it most: a one-percent move in the biggest constituent shifts the headline number far more than the same move in the smallest. Reading the index alone therefore tells you what the giants did, not what the average listed company did — which is why our daily report always breaks out the individual movers.

The session read
The S&P IPSA rose 0.52%, with breadth positive — 8 of 11 names higher. Consumer Disc. led, while Industrials lagged.

Why the currency matters as much as the index

The S&P IPSA is quoted in Chilean peso (CLP). For an investor holding dollars, a rising index paired with a weakening local currency can still mean a loss, and a flat index paired with a strengthening currency can mean a gain.

That is why every report on this page pairs the index with USD/CLP, and why we state which side of the pair moved. A falling USD/CLP means the local currency strengthened.

How to read our daily Chile report

Each session we publish a full report built on the same structure: the session in one read, the verified numbers, why the market moved, the day’s individual movers, the regional scoreboard, the technical picture and what to watch next. Every index level, exchange rate and percentage move is taken directly from end-of-day market data and checked against it before publication — no figure in those reports is written from memory or estimated.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the S&P IPSA?
It is Chile’s benchmark stock-market index, tracking the largest and most actively traded companies listed on the Bolsa de Santiago. It is quoted in Chilean peso (CLP).

Where do the figures on this page come from?
From verified end-of-day market data (EODHD). The level, the session change and the exchange rate are inserted automatically from that feed and are never written or estimated by hand.

How often is this page updated?
Every trading day, after the session closes, together with our full Chile market report.

Does a falling USD/CLP mean the peso or real is weaker?
No — the opposite. USD/CLP expresses how many units of the local currency one US dollar buys, so a falling figure means the local currency strengthened.
