Brazil’s ten smallest economies

Brazil’s GDP in 2021 was R$8.7 trillion (US$1.6 trillion), according to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The last survey that measured the wealth produced by the 27 states of the federation was in 2019.

10TH – RIO GRANDE DO NORTE
The northeastern state has the tenth smallest economy in the country, with a GDP of R$71.3 billion.

9TH – PARAÍBA
Paraíba has the ninth smallest GDP in the country, with R$68 billion.

8TH – ALAGOAS
Alagoas is in the eighth position with the country’s smallest GDP, with R$59 billion. The warm blue ocean waters of the state capital, Maceió, justify its fame as the Brazilian Caribbean.

7TH – PIAUÍ
The seventh smallest economy in the country has a GDP of R$52.8 billion and is home to the Serra da Capivara National Park. The historical and cultural sanctuary has 400 archeological sites with cave paintings and engravings that date back 43,000 years.

6TH – RONDÔNIA
The state in the Northern region ranks sixth as the country’s smallest economy, with a GDP of R$47.1 billion.

5TH – SERGIPE
In fifth place is Sergipe, with a GDP of R$44,7 billion. The capital Aracaju has beautiful beaches and diversified cuisine.

4TH – TOCANTINS
Emerged from dividing Goiás state, the newest member of the federation has the fourth smallest economy in the country, with R$39,4 billion. The state is famous for the Jalapão State Park, known for its exuberant beauty.

3RD – AMAPÁ
The third smallest economy in Brazil has a GDP of R$17,5 billion.

2ND – ACRE
The country’s westernmost state has the second smallest economy, with a GNP of R$15.6 billion.

1ST – RORAIMA
The country’s smallest economy is in the North region. Roraima has a GDP of R$14.3 billion and is home to Mount Roraima State Park, located on the triple border between Brazil, Venezuela, and Guyana. The plateau, where the top of the mountain is located, is one of the highest points in the country, with an altitude of 2,734 meters.
