Survey: 81% of Brazilians consider vaccination slow; 62% see mass coverage only in 2022

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil, which on Monday, March 15th, reached the mark of 10 million people vaccinated, about 5% of the population, registers a slow and unsatisfactory vaccination rate, in the opinion of 81% of Brazilians, while a five times smaller portion, 16%, is satisfied. This is the result of a survey ordered by the Brazilian Federation of Banks (FEBRABAN) and conducted in the first week of March by IPESPE, which interviewed about 3,000 people from all regions of the country.

Still according to the survey, two-thirds of Brazilians, or 62%, consider that only in 2022 will Brazil achieve mass vaccination coverage. A more modest share, 29%, is optimistic and believes that this should occur as early as the second half of this year. An even smaller amount, equivalent to 5%, is confident that the majority of the population will be vaccinated in the first half of this year.

The number of people vaccinated against the Covid-19 reached 10,081,771 on Monday, March 15th, which represents 4.76% of the Brazilian population. In the past 24 hours, 365,313 people have been administered the first dose of the vaccine and 104,171 the second. The booster dose has reached 3,672,422 people, or 1.73% of the population.

The only safe way

Vaccination is perceived by 77% of Brazilians as the only safe and effective way to protect themselves from the coronavirus, according to the survey. Those who don’t trust the vaccine amount to 19%, or one-fifth of respondents.

Despite the start of vaccination, three-quarters of respondents, or 72%, agree that the pandemic situation has worsened, with Brazil again breaking daily death records.

On Monday, the country reached 279,286 covid-19 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health. Half of Brazilians, or 52%, had a friend or relative who died because of the virus, says the FEBRABAN survey. A total of 55% of respondents know someone who has been infected.
