Trump Puts Tomahawks On The Table, Raising Pressure On Moscow

Aboard Air Force One on October 12, President Donald Trump said he may consider supplying Ukraine with U.S.-made Tomahawk cruise missiles if Russia does not move soon to end the war.

He described Tomahawks as a “very offensive” long-range weapon and hinted any transfer could be conditioned or routed through allies. The message was aimed squarely at Moscow: settle, or face a new kind of pressure.

The stakes are easy to understand. Tomahawks are precision cruise missiles designed to fly low and far—roughly 1,250 to 2,500 kilometers—striking airbases, command centers, and ammunition depots deep behind front lines.

Ukraine today can hit some of these targets with shorter-range systems like ATACMS, which reach about 300 kilometers. Tomahawks would stretch that reach several times over, forcing Russia to disperse assets, harden defenses, and move high-value equipment farther from the war.
