All Brazilian regional capitals to have 5G services by November

According to the state telecommunications agency (Anatel), all 27 Brazilian regional capitals will be equipped with 5G technology by November.

Currently, 22 Brazilian regional capitals are already equipped with the technology. Only the cities of Macapá, Belém, Manaus, Rio Branco, and Porto Velho have yet to be fitted with the 5G high-speed Internet network by Oct. 28.

Today, Monday, the cities of Aracaju, Boa Vista, Campo Grande, Cuiabá, Maceió, Sao Luis, and Teresina, all capitals of the region, were approved for the 5G service.

In an interview, Moisés Queiroz, advisor to Anatel, said that “the installation of 5G is working well and is on schedule.

In January, 5G will be installed in cities with more than 500,000 inhabitants, by June 30, 2023, in the towns with more than 200,000 inhabitants, and so on.”

According to Queiroz, the impact of 5G is focused on the population, cell phones, and uploading and downloading data at high speed, although most devices cannot receive the 5G signal.

“Those already receiving the signal are noticing the difference, and it’s brutal,” he explained.

The Anatel consultant said that with 5G technology, new applications and technologies could be developed to enable greater security, connected cars, and telemedicine, and could also be used in industry and the agricultural sector, allowing Brazil to develop further to bring the country “to the forefront of mobile technology.”

“In telemedicine, there is a lot of talk about remote operations with greater precision, meaning there will be no latency, which will make life much easier, but this is still in the future,” he added.

In terms of agribusiness and industry, there are two types of 5G: public networks and private networks, where farms and industries can use these specific frequencies privately, which will significantly facilitate industry development, he said.
