There are no economic conditions for changing Petrobras’ pricing policy, says Serrão
Petrobras announced a 7.5% increase in the average price of gasoline this Tuesday, the 24th. The value goes from R$ 3.08 to R$ 3.31 per liter.
According to the state-owned company, the price increase “accompanies the evolution of reference prices” and that the new increase “is consistent with Petrobras’ pricing practice”.
The strategy, according to the company “seeks to balance its prices with the market, but without transferring the situational volatility of quotations and the exchange rate to domestic prices”.

Commentator Jorge Serrão understands that there are no political conditions for changing the company’s pricing practices.
During Jovem Pan’s 3 in 1 program, Serrão said that the country needs to debate whether the pricing policy is suited to society’s interest.
“You have to know what you want to do with this company. Petrobras today is a state-owned company with a mixed economy, which has shareholders abroad and they charge a profit. Result. They want to know about it. Regardless of who cares. Here comes the question: do we need to pay for fuel at such a high price? Is that fuel price policy suited to the interests of Brazilian society? This debate has not taken place”, he said.
“Lula wants to change Petrobras’ pricing scheme, but for the time being there are no political and economic conditions to do so. The debate is necessary, fundamental, but Brazil does not like to debate serious things”, he analyzed.
