Rio de Janeiro: pregnant woman killed during shootout between police and drug dealers

The Capital's Homicide Police Department is investigating the case.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL -A shootout between state police and drug dealers in the Complexo do Lins resulted in the death of Kathlen de Oliveira Romeu, on Tuesday afternoon, June 8. She was pregnant, was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to a gunshot wound - the police have not said who fired the fatal bullet.

According to the State Police (MP), officers from the Lins Police Pacification Unit (UPP) were attacked by gunfire from criminals in the area known as Beco da 14, causing a clash, resulting in the seizure of a rifle magazine, 9mm ammunition and drugs.
