Another case of avian influenza documented in wild birds in Brazil; cumulative cases reach 68

The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture has shared recent data, indicating the detection of another occurrence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1 virus) in the country’s wild bird population.

This update was announced at 7 pm on the official communication channel.

The cumulative count of avian influenza instances currently stands at 68 nationwide – 66 of these cases pertain to wild birds, while the other two have been identified in local, domestic bird breeds maintained for subsistence farming.

Concurrently, the ministry has disclosed that seven more potential cases are under rigorous examination, involving a detailed process of sample collection, with laboratory results yet to provide definitive confirmation.

Despite these incidents involving wild and domestically bred birds, Brazil’s international standing as a country free from widespread avian influenza remains unaffected.

These isolated instances do not impose limitations on the country’s global trade in poultry products, in accordance with the regulations set forth by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).
