RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Chamber of Deputies of Chile voted this Tuesday against the Law for the Decriminalization of Abortion up to 14 weeks of gestation. The project presented in 2018 by opposition deputies will be archived.
After two days of debate, the initiative did not reach its first constitutional procedure, the simple quorum required for any of the reports of the Women and Gender Equity Commission, reported ANSA news agency.
The first document, which had already been approved in general on September 28, was rejected this Tuesday in particular with 59 votes in favor, 66 against, and two abstentions.
The second text, a single article approved by the committee in its discussion, in particular, obtained 62 votes in favor, but 65 against and one abstention, so it was not supported either.
The rejection votes came from the right and six deputies of the opposition Christian Democracy and Jaime Mulet, president of the Social Green Regionalist Party, added ANSA.
