Buenos Aires Stock Exchange rises 6.19%

The leading company shares index, S&P Merval, trading on the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange, saw an increase of 6.19% this Wednesday, ending at 559,931.63 points.

Meanwhile, the S&P BYMA General Index finished at 23,747,739.05 units, reflecting a 6.32% jump.

A total of ARS 20.091 billion (US$54.9 million) was traded in shares, with 67 stocks increasing, one decreasing, and three remaining unchanged.

Despite the overall positive trend, some top-performing companies included Grupo Financiero Galicia (up by 14.25%), Transportadora Gas del Norte (rising by 10.14%), and BBVA Argentina (gaining 9.81%).

On the other hand, Argentine sovereign bonds declined by an average of 0.7% in their US dollar value. The Argentine country risk index settled at 2,187 basis points.

In the official foreign exchange market, the US dollar remained stable at the state-run Banco Nación, closing at ARS 347.50 for buying and ARS 365.50 for selling.

In the wholesale market, it decreased by 5 cents, ending at ARS 349.50.

In the informal market, the US dollar increased by ARS 50, reaching a new peak of ARS 780 per dollar for selling. Meanwhile, other financial dollar variants exhibited mixed behavior.

The “dollar with settlement” (CCL) rose by 3% to ARS 722.92 per unit, while the “stock market dollar” or “MEP dollar” dropped by 2.4% to ARS 651.42 per unit.
