Angola’s inflation reaches 11.25% as prices continue to rise

Angola’s National Consumer Price Index (IPCN) shows a consistent upward trend, with a year-on-year increase of 0.63 percentage points, bringing the inflation rate to 11.25%.

Transportation and healthcare costs are particularly burdensome for Angolans.

The latest IPCN report for June 2023 reveals a 0.57 percentage point acceleration in the current variation compared to the same period last year.

Luanda tops the list of provinces with the highest price variation, at 1.69%, followed by Lunda Norte (1.50%) and Namibe (1.35%).

Conversely, Cabinda (0.90%), Lunda Sul (0.92%), and Moxico (0.94%) have the lowest price variation.

Among the expenditure classes, eight out of the 12 categories have rates higher than the unit.

Transportation experiences the most significant price increase, with a variation of 2.71%, followed by healthcare (2.08%), clothing and footwear (1.53%), and food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.46%).

Food and non-alcoholic beverages contribute the most to the overall price increase, accounting for 0.85 percentage points in June.

Transportation contributes 0.15 percentage points, while miscellaneous goods and services contribute 0.12 percentage points, and healthcare contributes 0.08 percentage points.

The remaining classes have a contribution of less than 0.08 percentage points each.
