Solar energy on track to become Brazil’s second largest energy source by the end of 2022

The Brazilian electricity matrix has 200 gigawatts (GW) installed capacity. Hydroelectric plants account for most of this production, with a total capacity of about 110 GW.

Wind power is second, with a total of 22.3 GW. In third place is photovoltaic solar energy, with an installed capacity of over 20.2 GW. By the end of the year,

According to experts from the association, it is very likely that the photovoltaic matrix will surpass wind power by the end of the year.

According to the July bulletin of the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), the share of renewable energy in the matrix is expected to increase, and the installed capacity of distributed solar power generation has grown and continues to stand out, with a tendency to increase by more than 80% in 2022 compared to 2021.

The share of solar PV in Brazil’s electricity supply is expected to increase from 2.5% to 4.1% in 2022, according to the Energy Bulletin published on October 10.

Brazil benefits from this energy transition because it is a country with high solar irradiation, which facilitates the use of the solar matrix.
