Brazil: Industrial production drops 0.7% in September, says IBGE

In a seasonally adjusted comparison, industrial production fell 0.7% in September compared to August.

The IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) released the result on Tuesday, November 1.

The fall in industrial production was the 2nd consecutive monthly drop.

Compared to September 2021, the industry grew by 0.4%.

The sector accumulated a retreat of 1.1% from January to September. In 12 months, it fell 2.3%.

It was also 18.7% lower than the record level in May 2011.

The four major economic categories recorded a reduction in output.

Semi-durable and non-durable consumer goods fell 1.4% in September compared to August.

Intermediate goods retreated 1.1%. Capital goods decreased by 0.5% in the month.

The smallest retraction was in consumer durables (-0.2%).

Among the sectors, the most important negative influences came from food products (-2.9%), metallurgy (-7.6%), and coke, oil products, and biofuels (-2.6%).

The extractive industry (+1.8%) and machinery and equipment (+2.2%) were up.
