Timorese government re-elects Zacarias da Costa for another mandate at CPLP

The Timorese Government this week approved the presentation of Zacarias da Costa’s reappointment as executive secretary of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) for another two-year term.

“The Council of Ministers approves the presentation of the candidacy of Dr. Zacarias Albano da Costa to the post of Executive Secretary of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries for another two-year mandate,” says a deliberation of the Executive.

The Government explains that the reappointment considers “the work that Zacarias da Costa has developed in performing his duties as executive secretary of the CPLP.”

It also recognizes that the exercise of the post “contributes to the international projection and prestige of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste”.

Zacarias da Costa was elected Executive Secretary of the CPLP for the biennium 2021-2023 at the XIII Conference of Heads of State and Government, which took place on July 17th, 2021, in Luanda.

The election of the CPLP Executive Secretary will be confirmed at the organization’s next Summit of Heads of State and Government, to be held in July 2023 in São Tomé and Príncipe.
