U.S. Sets Visa Record for Brazilians in 2023

In 2023, Brazil’s U.S. Embassy and Consulates shortened interview and processing waits, resulting in a historic issuance of 1.125 million visas.

São Paulo, leading the states in visa issuance, issued 517,000, with Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Porto Alegre, and Recife following at 230,000, 173,000, 118,000, and 87,000, respectively.

On the U.S. Department of State’s website, applicants fill out forms available in various languages with translations for global users.

Most visas cost $185, with the B1/B2 tourist visa enjoying an 85% approval rate. Applicants use the U.S. Department of State’s website to fill out forms.

After payment, they can schedule interviews or document submissions.

Passports return within 15 business days. They can be picked up or couriered at the applicant’s expense.

Waivers apply for certain age groups and those with recently expired visas.

Families are advised to apply together, with up to ten members per appointment. If one needs an interview, all do.

Interviews occur in Portuguese, and bringing documents is essential. Travel plans should wait until after visa approval.

Interview-exempt individuals only submit documents, including a photo if not appearing in person.

The embassy stresses that no agency can speed up this process. This record-setting year reflects both efficiency improvements and a strong bond between the U.S. and Brazil.
