The best season runs from November through March, when conditions are ideal for kayaking, snorkeling, and what operators describe as a low-key, nature-first experience — closer to a private island than a beach club. The Quintana Roo government called the award confirmation of the state’s status as a global tourism capital.

The timing, however, is complicated. The same state just issued emergency alerts after cartel retaliation following the killing of drug lord “El Mencho” disrupted Cancún and Cozumel with roadblocks and vehicle burnings. Several countries warned their citizens to shelter in place across Quintana Roo — the very region now being marketed as the world‘s top beach destination.

That contrast captures a broader truth about Mexican tourism: the natural product is world-class, but the security environment remains unpredictable. For Isla Pasión, the TripAdvisor crown is a validation. Whether it translates into sustained international arrivals will depend on what kind of headlines Quintana Roo makes in the weeks ahead.
