“Through these studies and dialogues with social institutions, we’ve established a concept of harmonious coexistence that does not infringe upon areas with alternative uses, such as rural settlements or commercial antenna usage,” he elaborated.

The park features natural attractions like Pico do Jabre, located in the municipality of Matureia, approximately 325 km from João Pessoa. Standing at 1,208 meters, this highest point in the state boasts a panoramic view of 130 kilometers spanning the states of Rio Grande do Norte and Pernambuco.

It is a favored spot among adventurers seeking breathtaking views and magnificent sunsets.

Marcelo Cavalcanti, head of Sudema (Supreme Environmental Authority), views the expansion of the protected area as highly beneficial for the state.

“We applaud this initiative and foresee a bright future for environmental conservation, coupled with a rise in tourism and visitor count,” he noted.

Cavalcanti further emphasized that Paraíba has numerous areas fitting for national parks, expressing hope for more such conversions into protected zones.

Brazil currently houses 74 national parks under ICMBio’s management, constituting around 26 million hectares of protected territories.

Some have been offered to private entities for tourism and recreational purposes.

The Serra do Teixeira National Park was instituted by presidential decree, outlining the territory within the municipalities of Água Branca, Cacimba de Areia, Catingueira, Imaculada, Juru, Mãe d’Água, Matureia, Olho d’Água, Santa Terezinha, Santana dos Garrotes, São José do Bonfim, and Teixeira.
