The extension comes with an immediate caveat: fitness. Neymar is recovering from an arthroscopy on his left knee to treat a meniscus problem, and Santos have not announced an official return date.

Brazilian reports around the procedure suggested roughly a month of recovery, but the club has stressed caution after an injury-interrupted season.

Santos argue the renewal is justified on merit. Coverage credited Neymar with five goals in the final stretch as the team fought off relegation danger, including a hat-trick against Juventude in the run-in.

Santos boost fans revenue surge

Santos stayed up and qualified for the next Copa Sudamericana, giving the club a sporting platform for 2026. Commercially, the effect was immediate.

Globo reported Santos gained about 9,000 new members in a single day and that the club’s most expensive membership plan sold out. Broadcast reported roughly 5,000 shirts sold in two days, generating about R$3 million ($556,000).

An IBOPE Repucom digital ranking also pointed to a sharp jump in Santos’ social reach, amplified by official club posts and rapid reposting across major sports accounts.

President Marcelo Teixeira has described the extension as a vote of confidence in the club’s “reconstruction” and credibility. Squad planning is meant to match that claim: reporting around the renewal has also linked 2026 to Gabriel “Gabigol” Barbosa returning to play alongside Neymar.

For Neymar, the contract is both promise and pressure: get healthy, keep Santos competitive, and chase the trophies—and the World Cup place—that still feel unfinished.
