New High-Value Banknotes Set for Release in Argentina

Argentina’s Central Bank today announced the release of new 10,000 and 20,000 pesos banknotes in June to combat inflation.

The current highest note, 2,000 pesos, is worth about 2.45 U.S. dollars.

These new notes will make transactions easier and reduce costs in the financial system. The bank reused existing designs to save resources.

The 10,000 pesos note features Manuel Belgrano and María Remedios del Valle, historical Argentine figures.

Its back shows the 1812 Flag Oath. Artworks include Belgrano’s portrait by François Casimir Carbonnier and Gisela Banzer’s ‘La Capitana.’

The 20,000 pesos note honors Juan Bautista Alberdi, who was influential in Argentina’s 1853 constitution. His portrait and a depiction of his birthplace are on the note.

These banknotes, available in June, represent a major update in Argentina’s currency.
