Many São Paulo Homes Still Dark Days After Outage

In the vibrant city of São Paulo and its expansive metropolitan area, half a million properties remain powerless.

This outage has lingered for three days following an unforeseen blackout.

The root of this widespread power loss was a severe storm that swept through various cities in the state, resulting in the loss of seven lives.

The morning of November 6 saw Enel São Paulo, the local utility, sharing updates of recovery.

The company succeeded in restoring electricity to approximately 1.6 million customers out of the initial 2.1 million affected by the storm.

The November 3 storm has been described by Enel as the most intense in recent memory, causing extensive damage to the electricity distribution network.

Enel’s technicians are putting in round-the-clock work to expedite the restoration process, with the goal of reconnecting most customers by Tuesday, November 7.

The repair process is unfolding progressively due to the complexity of the damage which includes large fallen trees and scattered branches.

Enel is coordinating with fire services, the municipal government, and other authorities to address the most urgent situations.

This is the first time Enel has managed a disaster of such scope, a company director remarks.

The state government, led by Governor Tarcísio de Freitas, is monitoring the situation closely.

It ensures that vital services for citizens continue uninterrupted by the power issues.

Sabesp, the regional water company, reports that the blackout halted operations at several of its facilities, affecting reservoir water levels and the water supply.

Residents of the capital and the larger São Paulo area are being asked to conserve water until the system is fully operational again.
