Interlagos Circuit to Host F1 Grand Prix till 2030

Formula 1 and São Paulo’s city officials have extended the contract for the Interlagos Circuit to host the Grand Prix until 2030.

This extension strengthens a previous agreement that was due to end in 2025.

São Paulo has agreed to invest $125 million, or 627.3 million Brazilian reais, to keep the city as a focal point in the Formula 1 calendar.

The deal follows competition with other cities to host the Formula 1 races, showing São Paulo’s commitment to remaining a key player in global sports events.

This investment is expected to bring jobs and economic benefits to the city.

Interlagos has been part of the Formula 1 circuit roster since 1990. This year’s Grand Prix, set for a Sunday afternoon, marks the 51st event in Brazil.

Background

The agreement to extend the Grand Prix hosting at Interlagos Circuit is more than a sports contract; it’s a strategic move for São Paulo.

This investment aligns with Brazil’s broader ambitions to cement its place in global sports tourism.

With this extension, Interlagos will continue to contribute significantly to the local economy through tourism and global media exposure.

Since its inception in 1940, Interlagos has been synonymous with motor racing history, becoming a beloved staple in the Formula 1 series.

The track has seen legendary moments in F1 history and has been a proving ground for world-class talent.

Moreover, this decision reaffirms Brazil’s historical passion for Formula 1, a sport that has produced Brazilian champions like Ayrton Senna and Nelson Piquet.

On a regional scale, the continuation of F1 in São Paulo underscores South America’s role in international motorsports.

Globally, it reflects the ongoing appeal of traditional racing venues amidst the evolution of the sport, which increasingly includes new locations and cutting-edge technologies.

The commitment to Interlagos shows a balance between heritage and progress in the fast-paced world of Formula 1.
