Honduras prepares for the International Festival of Poetry, Song and Storytelling

Tegucigalpa is gearing up for the first International Festival of Poetry, Song, and Narrative, titled “Tegus sí canta,” with Cuba as the guest country.

The event will take place from July 4 to 8, bringing together writers from ten countries, according to festival director Karen Ayala.

Intellectuals from Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, the Netherlands, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Mexico will participate in the festival.

The event, sponsored by Editorial La Chifurnia and the Secretariat of Cultures and Arts, will have an educational and pedagogical focus.

The festival will also pay tribute to Honduran poet Livio Ramírez for his 50 years of literary career, recognizing his cultural and social impact in the country and his international reach.

The cultural activities will extend beyond Tegucigalpa to the nearby municipalities of Comayagua, La Paz, Talanga, and Cantarranas.

The festival aims to promote interaction with the local communities.

Renowned intellectuals such as Graciela Araoz (Argentina), Luz Mary Giraldo (Colombia), Carlos Bonilla (Costa Rica), Miguel Barnet (Cuba), Paty Silva (El Salvador), Francisco Méndez (Guatemala), Jaap Blonk (Netherlands), Aura Guerra-Artola (Nicaragua), as well as several Honduran writers, will be among the invited participants.

The festival will kick off on Tuesday at the Manuel Bonilla National Theater in Tegucigalpa.

The participants will engage with students in schools across Tegucigalpa and other cities throughout the week. Public squares and museums in all five cities will also host activities such as music performances and poetry readings.
