Brazil’s bet on flying taxis keeps adding customers. Eve eVTOL orders are piling up for Embraer’s electric-aircraft spin-off, which now counts its global commitments in the thousands as it pushes toward certification.

In July, Eve Air Mobility signed letters of intent covering up to 16 aircraft with one financier and up to 30 with another, the company said, extending a run of deals that has taken its total commitments toward 2,700.

Turning a concept into an orderbook

An eVTOL, short for electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, is designed to move a handful of passengers across a city cleanly and quietly, a category still years from everyday service. Eve’s task now is to convert interest into firm, certified deliveries.

There is real progress. Its aircraft, branded the Eve 100, completed a full-scale demonstrator flight in December 2025, and the company has planned hundreds of test flights across 2026, the grind that turns commitments into a working product.

A Brazilian aerospace story

Eve is one arm of a wider Embraer moment. The parent company is forecasting demand for 8,500 commercial jets through 2045 and continues to win airline interest, including from the group behind Brazil’s Gol, which is nearing an order for its E2 jets.

For investors, the eVTOL pipeline is a long-dated bet: large in ambition, uncertain in timing, and dependent on regulators certifying an aircraft type that barely exists in commercial service yet.

The near-2,700 figure sounds enormous, but most of those are letters of intent, essentially reservations, rather than firm, paid orders. No air taxi of this kind is yet approved to carry paying passengers anywhere in the world, and Eve still has to clear demanding safety certification before its first deliveries, which it expects later this decade. The long order list shows real interest in the idea; turning it into aircraft flying over cities is the harder part still ahead.

Eve is not alone in the race. American rivals such as Joby Aviation and Archer are chasing the same goal, and all of them face the same hurdles: proving the aircraft are safe, building the landing pads and charging points a city network would need, and convincing passengers to climb aboard. Whoever gets there first, the technology is still years from being an everyday way to cross town.
