Covid-19: Despite 10,000 New Cases, Death Rate Decelerates in Brazil (November 1st)
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – According to data released last night, November 1st, by the Ministry of Health, Brazil recorded 10,100 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours. In total, the disease has affected 5,545,705 Brazilians and was responsible for 160,074 deaths, an increase of 190 deaths since Saturday, October 31st.
The bulletin reported that the number of recovered patients has been increasing and now reaches almost 90 percent of the total infections: 4,980,942 people – 89.8 percent of the total. Brazil ranks second in terms of recovered patients in the world, second only to India, which also leads in the number of cases. India records 8.18 million infections and 4.49 million recovered.
The Ministry of Health’s report also notes that there are currently 2,359 deaths under investigation.

São Paulo’s figures
The São Paulo government reported that the state counts 1,117,147 confirmed cases of Covid-19. Also according to the balance, 39,331 deaths have been reported. The recovery rate in the state reaches 90 percent, with 1,005,729 people diagnosed as free of the virus after infection. Of this total, 122,115 were hospitalized, but were discharged after recovering.
According to the report, the main co-morbidities that raise the probability of patients dying from the disease have been identified. Heart disease accounts for over half (59.8 percent) of deaths in the state, followed by diabetes mellitus (43.2 percent), neurological diseases (10.9 percent), kidney disease (9.6 percent), pneumopathy (8.3 percent). Other factors are obesity (8.1 percent), immunodepression (5.5 percent), asthma (three percent), liver diseases (2.1 percent) and hematologic diseases (1.7 percent), Down syndrome (0.5 percent), puerperium (0.1 percent) and pregnancy (0.1 percent). In total, 31,630 people who died from Covid-19 (80.4 percent) presented one of these pictures.
In the published note, the state government also highlights that the ICU bed occupancy rate stands at 41.2 percent in Greater São Paulo. In other cities, the average is 39.5 percent. Currently, 6,997 patients are hospitalized, 3,983 of whom in wards and 3,014 in the ICU.
