The Brazilian Central Bank (BC) determined on Thursday 2 that even after authorizing WhatsApp to launch the option that allows users to make transactions with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards within the application, the company must wait 30 days before making the feature available.
According to the representative of WhatsApp in Latin America, Guilherme Horn, the function to pay companies in the application conversations will soon be released.
So far, it is only possible to make transfers between individuals within the conversations screen, needing only to register a card and enter personal data such as full name, zip code, and CPF.

In 2021 WhatsApp launched the alternative of making instant transfers and no fees within the application but depended on the release of the Central Bank to also use the feature in companies.
According to the BC, the 30-day interval from approval to implementation is necessary to allow time for all partners to get informed, respecting the principles of competition.
Learn how to set up the WhatsApp feature that allows you to send money to your contacts:
- On the conversation screen, tap on the “R$” icon – another option is to click on the paperclip icon and select “Payment”;
- Enter the amount of the transfer, and if you want, write a message;
- For the first WhatsApp transfer, you need to register a card by clicking on “Get Started”;
- On the next screen, read the details about the feature and select “Continue”;
- Check the checkbox to indicate that you agree to the terms and tap “Continue”;
- Create a six-digit password and confirm the option – you can also register your fingerprint if your phone has a fingerprint reader;
- Enter your data (full name, CPF, and zip code) and tap “Next”;
- Add your credit card;
- Verify your card via the bank application or by email;
- To complete the transfer, tap “Send Payment” – if you want to complete the process but don’t want to make the transfer, tap “Continue”.
