Brazil Seleção Win SuperClassico: Daily

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Neymar scored the winning penalty in a shoot-out to give Brazil the SuperClassico crown over Argentina. Having won the first leg 2-1 in Brazil last month, the Seleção lost by the same scoreline in Buenos Aires’ La Bombonera Stadium late Wednesday night.

Yet a 4-3 victory on spot-kicks gave Brazil the title for the second consecutive year. With a lead to defend, Mano Menezes did not send his side out in the most creative way he could, instead striving to shut out the opposition.

Two goals from Scocco however, either side of a strike from Fred, left an aggregate score of 3-3 before the Brazilians emerged victorious. The Seleção will now only return to the field in 2013, on February 6th.

Their first game of the year is against England in London’s Wembley stadium. the 2013 main challenge will be the Confederations Cup, hosted in Brazil from June 15th-30th, with the final to be held at Rio’s renovated Maracanã Stadium.
