Lula wants to lower car prices to make them more affordable for lower income classes

Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said Thursday that he wants to lower the price of cars in the country to make them more affordable for the population with fewer resources.

At an event in Brasília, Lula said that the government wants to adopt initiatives to lower the price of vehicles and guarantee better financial conditions for their purchase.

“Car factories are not selling well, but what poor person can buy a popular car for 90,000 reais (about US$18,000)?” he asked.

“A 90,000 reais car is not popular; it is for the middle class”, said Lula.

The president defended the need for vehicles to have more compatible prices and accessible financial benefits, although he declined to give more details.
