Foreign tourist spending in Brazil in 2023 exceeds 2019 level

In the first half of the year, foreign tourist spending in Brazil brought in US$3.229 billion (equivalent to R$15.3 billion), a figure 7.2% higher than the US$3.075 billion recorded over the same period in 2019, the last pre-pandemic year.

According to the Central Bank’s data, which has been collected since 1995, there’s a noticeable rebound in international tourism in Brazil.

Compared to the first six months of 2022 (US$2.389 billion), foreign spending in Brazil grew by 35%.

In June alone, international travelers spent US$508 million (about R$2.407 billion) in the country.

This is the second-highest figure for the month in 28 years, surpassed only by June 2014, the time when Brazil hosted the FIFA World Cup.

In terms of tourist arrivals, Brazil welcomed 92% of the total tourists that visited the country throughout 2022 within the first six months of 2023.

From January to June, there were 3.246 million tourists, compared to 3.6 million for the entire year of 2022. In June of this year alone, 274,302 international travelers arrived in Brazil.
