Rio de Janeiro City Hall Announces Soccer Games with Fans from October 4th

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Friday, September 18th, Rio de Janeiro’s City Hall announced that the city’s soccer stadiums will once again be able to welcome fans for matches, starting October 4th.

In a statement, the municipal authority reported that “the first match with fans present will be at the Maracanã stadium“. There is a game scheduled for October 4th at this sports venue, Flamengo and Athletico-PR, in the 13th round of the Brazilian Championship.

In addition, Rio’s City Hall announced that some measures will be taken to avoid the spread of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).

The first measure is that this first match will be held with the crowd limited to one-third of its capacity. Furthermore, “the wearing of masks and temperature checks at the entrance will be mandatory.” Finally, “to prevent crowds, the sale of tickets will be made online.”
