To enable the work, a task force will be set up involving representatives of the city government and the ministry. According to a note released by the city government, the goal is to make Rio de Janeiro a pilot project that could be implemented in the future in the main capitals hosting major festivals with the same features as the Rio de Janeiro Carnaval.

“I met with the Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, to discuss matters related to Carnaval and the safety of our revelers and tourists. I appreciate the support we have been receiving from the federal government, which guaranteed us a safer festival and with structural support required for days of great joy for the people,” says Crivella in a text released on Wednesday.

The task force will work to prepare the Sambadrome, where the main samba schools parade, with the required works and interventions to adapt the space to the Fire Department’s safety project, and the development of a safety plan for the Carnaval period.

The safety plan will cover the entire tourist area with cameras, including facial recognition. Agents will be trained to analyze this type of image, also using the street cameras of the Operations Center (COR) and the Traffic Engineering Company (CET-Rio).

According to the city hall, later this month, Crivella will host the minister in Rio to settle the partnership details and inspect the Sambadrome, in addition to other tourist attractions in the city.
