Climate activists disrupt air traffic at two major German airports

Environmental activists belonging to the group Letzte Generation (Last Generation) caused disruptions at Hamburg and Dusseldorf airports in Germany.

The activists breached security perimeters and positioned themselves on the runways, leading to a temporary suspension of air traffic for safety reasons.

The protest coincided with the start of summer vacations in Hamburg.

While airport authorities expressed confidence in resuming flight operations soon, delays are expected throughout the day.

At Dusseldorf airport, seven activists also stormed the premises, preventing aircraft from taking off.

They accessed the runway by cutting through a fence.

Police successfully removed all activists from the runways by 10:30 a.m. However, passengers should anticipate delays in the coming hours, according to an airport spokeswoman.

The Last Generation group stated on Twitter that their protest aimed to highlight the government’s failure to address the climate crisis in accordance with the law.
