Covid-19: Brazil Records Totals of 69,100 Deaths, 1.75 Million Cases (July 9th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil recorded 69,184 deaths from the novel coronavirus pandemic. In the past 24 hours, 1,220 people who lost their lives as a result of Covid-19 were added to the statistics. The data were included in the daily update released by the Ministry of Health yesterday, July 9th.

According to the report, there are 632,552 people in follow-up and 1,054,043 have recovered. There are 4,077 deaths still under investigation to determine if they were caused by Covid-19. The cumulative number of deaths has increased 1.7 percent compared to Wednesday when there were 67,964 deaths from the disease.

The panel also reported 42,619 new cases. As a result, the cumulative total of infections in the country reached 1,755,779. The total represents an increase of 2.4 percent compared to Wednesday when the Ministry’s panel reported 1,713,160 people in this condition.

The lethality (number of deaths per total of cases) stood at 3.9 percent. The mortality rate (number of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants) was 32.9. The incidence of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants is 835.5.

The states with most deaths are São Paulo (17,118), Rio de Janeiro (11,115), Ceará (6,741), Pernambuco (5,409) and Pará (5,196). The states with the fewest deaths from the pandemic are Mato Grosso do Sul (136), Tocantins (240), Roraima (393), Acre (411), and Santa Catarina (447).
